I would overwrite the current installation, and I would indeed use a clean Joomla htaccess.txt for your .htaccess.Just to be clear after backup are you suggesting deleting the current installation or overwriting it?
I assume I need to overwrite the .htaccess after uploading the clean Joomla copy?
